| The
Idolmaker
Synopsis
The
Idolmaker is an unusally compelling film about the music business
in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It shows how teen idols were
created, promoted, and discarded by entrepreneurs cynically manipulating
the adolescent audience. Ray Sharkey is superb in the title role.
Script is a roman-a-clef of the career of Bob Marcucci who, along
with Dick Clark, guided Frankie Avalon to stardom and then created
Fabian as Avalon's successor. Viewers will have no trouble recognizing
Paul Land as the Avalon figure or Peter Gallagher as Fabian.
